influences on the warImperialistic, territorial, and economic contentions that had been intensifying since the late 19th century were those various influences leading to the war. Predominantly among Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia, and Austria-Hungary.
Imperialistic; referring to acquisition by an administration of other governments, territories, economic or cultural power over other nations or territories. Territorial; referring to possession of areas of land or sea and economic; referring to the economy. When denoting any factors of influence on the war itself, we are able to observe the category of mutual defense alliances. While in the happening of the war, soldiers within their troops approached the idea of forming multiple alliances within nations. These alliances typically comprise promises of support between signatory nations, including trade agreements, and protecting each other. “During the 19th and early 20th centuries, European nations habitually formed, annulled and restructured their alliances. By 1914 the Great Powers of Europe had shuffled themselves into two opposing alliance blocs. In theory, these alliance blocs meant that a war between two opposing nations may result in war between all of them”1. Nationalism played another immense role in the general lead up to World War 1. This was because; based on the desire of the Slavic peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina to no longer be a part of Austria-Hungary but instead be a part of Serbia, was much of the origin of the war. The nationalism of numerous countries all through Europe contributed not only to the commencement, but the postponement of the war. |
the assassination of ARCHDUKE franz ferdinandWorld War 1 was an abominable war fought from 1914 to 1918. This war, concerning the associates of Britain, France, Russia, and Italy, was immediately expedited after the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria- Hungary in 1914, by a nationalist of Serbia. Archduke Francis Ferdinand- born in the city of Graz, December 1863- was under the attack of assassination on multiple accounts after he had announced his journey to Sarajevo. But how did an announcement declaring his voyage lead his assassination and to the beginning of World War 1?
You see; in the southern portion of Austria-Hungary was a region called Bosnia. The south border of Austria-Hungary wanted the freedom of the Serbians. And the Numerous Bosnians wanting their own country and not to be under the rule of Austria-Hungary slightly helped this situation. Although Austria-Hungary was allied with Germany; what worsened the state was the fact that Serbia was an ally with the powerful Russian Empire. So once Archduke Ferdinand announced his trip to Sarajevo, Bosnian nationalists saw this as the perfect opportunity to raid the Austrian Empire. With the assistance of the country of Serbia, assassin members of a terrorist group named the Black Hand, were recruited and trained to murder the Archduke as he travelled through the streets of Sarajevo. When the 28th of June 1914 finally arrived, Franz Ferdinand and his wife while travelling through the town hall of Sarajevo, had no idea that the Black Hand had several assassins positioned along the route. It was not long after this point that the first assassination attempt occurred. When a bomb thrown by a man named Nedeljko Cabrinovic bounced off the car and landed under the next car in the motorcade giving Archduke the ability to speed away, was when the first attempt had already failed. However the assassins did not give up. On the return trip, when the motorcade took a wrong turn; the driver began to back up giving an assassin named Gavrilo Princip the aptitude to fire at the Archduke twice and his wife Sophie who was also on the travel. It was at this point that World War 1 was triggered. But despite these occurrences, there were numerous influences leading to the happening of the war. |
